The University was established in 1945, and Dr. Mohammad Jamal Bhat gave the idea of establishing a medical teaching institute in Multan. There was only one medical college in Punjab at that time, named after King Edward Medical College in Lahore. After the liberation of Pakistan, Hindu doctors migrated to India. And Muslim students were admitted with the highest potential. To meet the need of doctors, the Punjab government decided to set up a new medical college and hospital in Multan.
